Berlin Adlershof: Facts and Figures

The Berlin Adlershof Science City is one of the most successful high-technology sites in Germany and Berlin’s largest media site. It is home to 1,144 companies and scientific institutions (Dec 2018) on an area of 4.6 km² – embedded in an integrated urban planning concept. 19,400 people work and 6,330 study here.

The Science and Technology Park is at the heart of the Adlershof Science City. It encompasses 537 companies and non-university research institutes. They focus on:

• Photonics and Optics,
• Renewable Energies and Photovoltaics,
• Microsystems and Materials,
• IT and Media,
• Biotechnology and Environment.

Adding to this are six scientific institutes of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Chemistry, Geography, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Physics and Psychology). The Media City is home to 170 companies. Large additional areas enable the Science and Technology Park to grow in the future.

In the past years, 360 single-family homes have been developed west of the 66-hectare nature and landscape park "Flugfeld Johannisthal". The near future years will see the completion of 1,400 housing units (“Living on Campus”) in the immediate vicinity to the Humboldt-University campus. At the end of 2018, around 3,800 people already lived in the Adlershof development area.
