Consultants for Energy and Hygiene
Acting as a role model
The team of the private EHA Institute offers consulting and other services on the issues of energy consumption and hygiene. Moreover they are cultivating cooperation with Chinese companies.
Claus Treppte gets really excited when he’s talking about his company’s services. Many companies waste energy because they don’t make use of excess heat. “It aggravates me,” he says. As a specialist for building technology and with years of experience as a consultant and surveyor, he could be of help.
Treppte is a co-partner of the “EHA – private Institute for Energy and Hygiene in Technical Facilities GmbH”. He runs the institute together with his wife Annette, who is also a specialist for technical building services, and four other employees. The EHA advises companies on the issues of energy as well as water and air hygiene. The EHA team issues expert reports, conducts energy inspections according to the Energy Saving Ordinance and offers related services. Using modern measurement technology, the EHA provides analyses and calculations, develops concepts to improve the energetic status quo and offers support for implementation.
Treppte tells us about how he once consulted a printing company: the company used an air-conditioning system to create a steady temperature and humidity for storing its paper. The exhaust air was directed upwards and outdoors, which is a complete waste of heat. The EHA suggested using a heat exchanger to gather the energy of the exhaust air and direct it back to the inflowing air. This saves a lot of energy, especially during winter. However, the amortization period (circa 2.5 years) for the conversion had to be considered.
Most customers of the institute are house owners, people responsible for construction projects, architects and building operators. The EHA also has good relationships with industrial customers as well as hospitals and other public facilities.
The EHA Institute moved into the Technology Centre for Photovoltaics and Renewable Energies in Adlershof shortly after its inception in 2014. Treppte is full of praise of the building’s energy technology. Almost half of the year, Treppte is in China to consult companies there. He is a visiting lecturer in Shanghai. It’s all about energy in China: Treppte helps architects and local governments with planning energy-saving buildings. To the Chinese, Germany is a role model in this field. Treppte knows basic Chinese and is familiar with the local culture, which helped him along the way.
The Treppte family lives in Altglienicke. If the weather allows it, she likes to bike to work, while he takes the car, because he often has appointments elsewhere. They are currently looking for two new employees to liaise with customers. Ideally, they should students concerned with technical building services. “We could really do with that,” says Treppte. One can almost hear him now explaining the flaws of their technical facilities to them.
