Technology Park Berlin Adlershof at Photonics West 2012
DirectPhonotics presents new generation of high-performance diode lasers / New Technology Center
Berlin Adlershof, one of the most successful sites for high technology in Germany with a particular focus on optical technology, photonics and optics, presented its newest products and technologies at Photonics West, which took place from January, 21-26 2012 at Moscone Center, San Francisco, California. Next to the technology park’s operating company, WISTA-MANGEMENT GMBH, the joint German exhibition stand hosted the DirectPhotonics Industries GmbH, Astro and Precision Engineering Adlershof GmbH, greateyes GmbH, PicoQuant GmbH, Crystal GmbH, EPIGAP Optronic GmbH and TEC Microsystems GmbH. The 55 companies active in the field of optical technology in Berlin Adlershof focus on laser technology, lasers in medical technology, optoelectronics, technical optics, as well as optical, electron beam and x-ray analytics. The network “Optec Berlin-Brandenburg e. V.” pools the competencies of companies and research institutions in Berlin and Brandenburg.
DirectPhotonics
Founded only last year in Berlin Adlershof, DirectPhotonics Industries GmbH develops and markets diode laser systems with kWatt-capacities and excellent beam properties that are comparable to the quality of conventional laser technologies, such as solid-state lasers or fibre lasers. These products are based on licensed technologies developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology in Aachen and the Fraunhofer Center for Laser Technology CLT in the US. In close cooperation with these research institutions and by making use of the long-standing industrial experience of the DirectPhotonics team, this technology is transferred to production in Berlin and marketed all over the world.
The company focuses on applications in material processing, especially cutting and welding of metals and polymers - the largest market share of industrial lasers. Due to the efficiency, compactness and durability of DirectPhotonics diode lasers, the company holds that their products can provide users with increasing productivity compared to the application of conventional gas or solid-state lasers. At the same time, the company hopes to gain acceptance for the application of coherent light in industrial production as opposed to traditional methods.
Berlin offers the company an ideal network of photonics competencies towards the development of high-performance diodes and new applications, as well as experienced staff.
About Berlin Adlershof:
Berlin Adlershof is one of the most successful high-technology sites in Germany and Berlin’s largest location for media. Since 1991, an integrated science, economy and media site has been growing on an area of 4.2 square kilometres, embedded in an overall urban development concept. At its heart is a science and technology park that encompasses eleven non-University research institutes, six scientific institutes from Humboldt University Berlin, and currently 425 companies. These companies and the non-University research institutes focus on five technology fields: photonics and optical technologies, photovoltaics, materials and microsystems, information and media technology, as well as environmental technology and biotechnology.
The WISTA-MANAGEMENT GMBH operates and develops the Science and Technology Park Berlin Adlershof, and provides the fitting environment for Photonic, Optic and Photovoltaic companies at all stages of maturity:
- Founders get special support from two Innovation and Business Incubation Centers
- SMEs find their flexible and specialized lab and office space in the 18,500 m² Center for Photonics and Optics or in one of the other six technology centers. The Center for Photovoltaics is currently under construction. Producing companies can build their facilities on their own plots of land.
