From Wafer to End Product in Under 8 Weeks
AEMtec expands portfolio to include one-stop services for microchip placement
AEMtec GmbH, a member company of the international technology group exceet, has expanded its value chain in microchip placement. The experienced electronics specialist, which maintains its own cleanroom manufacturing facilities in Berlin, is now able to act as a one-stop shop for all manufacturing steps from raw wafer product to fully fitted circuit board in less than 8 weeks.
This abbreviated production cycle offers AEMtec clients significant competitive benefits in a fast-moving microchip market driven by innovative technologies. Particularly for businesses which require small and medium production volumes, major benefits accrue from a single-source portfolio and shorter delivery times.
They also profit from coordinating their processes with a design house that acts as wafer manufacturer at the same time. The extreme reduction of cycle times results from a consistent avoidance of interface losses. AEMtec has been able to cut these to an absolute minimum thanks to short internal coordination cycles, rapid and uncomplicated test runs, and an avoidance of unnecessary transport times between the individual production steps.
Clients also benefit from optimal product traceability. Because just one single supplier assumes responsibility for the entire production chain and full product quality, any potential error is identified and eliminated quickly, and production processes can be adjusted and improved accordingly.
State-of-the-Art Production Facilities and Fraunhofer License
As part of this extended value chain, AEMtec is able to deliver all production components from UBM (under bump metallization) to wafer balling and sawing to flip-chip soldering technology and testing. Another client benefit is that AEMtec deploys state-of-the-art manufacturing technologies to optimize the individual production steps. Balling processes are conducted in-house, as are automated optical control and repair.
Additional optimization effects have been achieved by AEMtec’s very close collaboration with IZM Fraunhofer (the inventor of the maskless UBM) in the fields of electroless plating and UBM. This can now be done entirely without individualized, cost- and time-intensive masks. “By extending our value chain, we are consolidating and expanding our position as a specialist for high-quality microchip placement”, says Dan Negrea, managing director of AEMtec GmbH, Berlin. “Particularly for clients who require small and medium production volumes, we are able to guarantee much shorter time-to-market cycles, and we can offer this target group a wider range of variants. In this way, we present an extraordinary combination of long-standing experience, innovative performance and production speed”.
